Early Life and Education –
Jelena Noura Hadid was born on April 23, 1995 in Los Angeles and brought up in nearby Santa Barbara where horseback riding became her passion. Her father is Palestinian-American real estate developer Mohamed Hadid and her mother is a former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Yolanda Hadid and a renowned Dutch model. Hadid has a younger sister, Bella and a brother, Anwar.
The model was first discovered by Guess co-founder and family friend Paul Marciano. At that time, she strike poses for Baby Guess, Guess Kids and finally Guess but later, she took a break from modeling for a competitive horseback biking and club volleyball play. She became captain of the varsity volleyball team at Malibu High School and went to Junior Olympic qualifiers for volleyball.
While studying criminal psychology at the New School in New York City in 2013; Hadid signed her first professional contract with IMG Models and she eventually put her studies on hold.

Hadid made a debut for New York Fashion Week in February 2014. In July of the same year, she appeared with Patrick Schwarzenegger in Tom Ford’s Eyewear autumn/winter campaign. In 2016, she became global brand ambassador of Tommy Hilfiger and began walking in runway shows for Versace, Chanel, Elie Saab, Miu Miu, Fendi, Marc Jacobs, Anna Sui, Balmain and Diane Von Furstenberg. Hadid also became a Reebok’s brand ambassador and has won the British Fashion Awards’ International Model of the Year.
TV and Film Appearances –
Hadid appeared in a 2012 American short film called Virgin Eyes. Her next role came in 2014 when she appeared as Slay-Z in pal Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” music video. She appeared on reality television with her mother Yolanda in Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills between 2012 and 2016. She later appeared in reality shows such as Masterchef, Lip Sync Battle and guest judging on RuPaul’s Drag Race.
Health Problems –
In February 2018, Hadid revealed that she suffers from Hashimoto’s disease, an autoimmune thyroid disorder. She became the target of social media trolls for body-shaming for being too thin.
Personal Life –
She dated singers Cody Simpson and Joe Jonas and also was first reported to be seeing former One Direction boy bander Zayn Malik in November 2015. The pair teamed up for their first joint photo shoots for Vogue. Hadid photographed with her boyfriend for the spring 2017 Versus Versace campaign and they both attended several high-profile events together.
