One year after his debut in the film industry, Pawan Kalyan married Nandini in 1977. In 2001, he started living with his co-star Renu Desai in a live-in relationship, and in 2004, their son Akira Nandan was born. In 2007, Pawan Kalyan first wife filed a bigamy case on him accusing him that he has remarried without divorcing her. He responded to her accusation by stating that he had not married Renu Desai. Then a magistrate court in Visakhapatnam cleared him from the charge due to lack of evidence.

Afterward, in July 2007, he filed a divorce case at a family court in Visakhapatnam claiming that his wife deserted him just after their marriage. But her lawyer denied it.
